Rates and Units

I found a website wthat might help you better understand Lesson 5-4. What we were doing in class is sometimes called dimensional analysis or unit analysis. You may like reading another description of it.

The better website that will let you use exactly the same method that we used in class is this one. Practice a few problems. You will become very good at setting up rates in a logical sequence.

Be sure to write the factor strings for the problems on LM 5-4. You can use your calculators to find the values. Pay attention to rounding.

Hope you all enjoyed not getting up early in Friday!

Haha...I did enjoy not getting up early on Friday!!! But, I was kinda sad that our ski trip was cancelled...do you know if it will be rescheduled?

This lesson actually makes sense to me. I like the factor strings because...well I don't know why but I think it just shows me how things are being solved. I guess I just like to know the proccess of certian things.

I haven't staarted my math yet because I'm going to do my SS. But if i have a problem then I'll write back here.

Because of the talent show on Tuesday and the mass on Wednesday are we going to have a weird schedule this week or are we just going to miss random classes?

Thanks!!!

I heard Ms. Johnson say that the the trips would be rescheduled. How do you like the second website?

Hey,
I was so glad I got to sleep in on Friday. They definitely should reschedule the trips, but I think it will be too warm by the time we get around to going. :(

I liked the websites. I didn't think the factor strings were too hard, but it was nice to have another explanation give you a different way to look at the method and the second website helped practice the method. I really liked the second website because you weren't concentrating on the calculations just using the method of cancellation and factor strings. Thanks Mrs. Burke!

See you at school! Happy Mardi Gras!

The second website helped me out more than the first, even though the first still had some good information. Thanks a lot Mrs. Burke, the second website makes things a lot more clear to me.

I absolutely enjoyed getting to sleep in on Friday! I'd felt very sleep deprived all week and that was just my catch up day! It was nice.

Anyways, I really liked the second website. Because i was kind of confused with the strings before and at first i was a little shaky. But after 3-4 of them, I got into it and realized how writing out what i know benefits me!

I haven't done the math hw yet but I found the warm-up ratios in class easy so I'm expecting to breeze right through it.

Thanks for adding these websites, Mrs. Burke!

As I predicted, I breezed through the hw without a problem.

If anyone has questions, I think I could help!

I just used the second website and I have to say that it really is helping me out. I think I am actually starting to understand these factor strings.

Mrs. Burke, I really enjoyed the two sites. The first one really cleared up some questions I had. The second site was also helpful because it gave me the chance to solve on my own, unlike the first one. Anyway, I feel more prepared for our quiz now after these sites. See you in class tomorrow.

I did a few problems on the second site, and it really did help. I like how there are different categories for time, area, distance, etc.

The homework was really easy, I sure like ratios better than rates. But, I still know that if I can figure out what units should be in my answer, then I'll know where to start the factor strings. I also will review over the sites for the quiz on Thursday

Thanks
