The Last Day of the First Week!

I know how disappointed you are that you missed algebra this afternoon because of the half day so I'll try to make up for it next week. Remember: quiz on Wednesday, Lessons 1-1, 1-2, & 1-3.

Your blog comments look very good so far. Your class work has been good but I think there should be more questions.

Have a great weekend!

Homework:

1. Complete Lesson 1-2, Review.
2. Complete Lesson 1-3, Covering the Ideas. If you are in doubt about how much work to show, show more rather than less. I'll let you know if you are writing too much. Use a ruler when drawing tables.

Hi Mrs. Burke!
I want to come visit Woods so badly, but I don't know if my school has any half days. I want to come see you guys in action, but that's pretty unlikely. Maybe if I don't have tennis afterschool one day I'll come by to say hi to the teachers.
The textbooks sound really different from last year's!
Hope to see you soon!

AMS, please do drop in. We have math classes on Tuesday through Friday; none on Monday and two each on Thursday and Friday, at 8:30 and 1:15. You will be able to follow algebra on the blog.

Hi Mrs. Burke,
I am having trouble answering #5-7 on covering the ideas. I don't understand what the question is asking. I'll make sure to talk to you tomorrow. Thanks

njm, for #5a, make a table with three columns in it. The top of the first column should have x in it; the second column should have 25 +(x - 5)(x + 5) in it; and the third should have "x squared" in it. Then choose four different values for x. Suggestion: use at least one negative integer for a value. Evaluate each expression. You should be able to do this mentally or using paper and pencil. You can check using your calculator. You (and everyone else) need to practice mental math! To answer 5b, you need to compare your results in the last two columns.

#6-7 are completed similarly. If you are still stuck, see me at 8:00AM

Hey to anyone willing to help me! --and hello to all those who can't help me too!

Well, in activity 2 [lesson 1-3] question 4; In words, describe a method to find the number of toothpicks it takes to make the Nth term., I understand that to each term you add 4. But, I have been trying to answer this problem for a while and i can't figure out the certain method...[such as in activity 1 it was N*3+1]I'm not sure if my question is making complete sense but I don't know any other way to word it. If anyone understands me, please write back!

I liked activity 2 in section 1-3. It was pretty challenging.

Dear Mrs. Burke,
I'm glad you clarified questions 5 through 7 for njm. I actually had the same question and it really helped me out!

Hi Mrs. Burke. Well, i never thought i'd be doing this again. HS is a lot of fun, but it is like a maze compared to Woods. Someday when i have a day off i'll come visit!

By the way, why did you change the background of the blog? I liked it better the old way.

I found a mistake in the math book. For CTI number 1, the third term shows an array that is 5 by 4, when it should show an array that is 5 by 3.

P.S. The erased comments near the bottom are mine. I dont know why, but it posted the same thing four times!

Hi Mrs. Burke,
I agree with dtm. I don't know if my school has any days off, but I'll try to come when I can.
I also feel that I have done a ton of walking here at GV! It's good exercise, but then everyone uses that as an excuse to eat a bunch of candy. :)
Love,
