Creating Scatterplots

Activity 8 on page 37 leaves out some details. Let me explain.

When you turn on the STAT PLOT function, you will see 4 choices with a 5th if you scroll down. You need to be sure that one of the stat plots is turned ON. Type should be the first (individual points). Xlist should say L1 and Ylist should say L2 (1 and 2 are subscripts but I can't type that on the blog. Mark should be the first choice.

Step 2 tells you to enter values in the STAT lists. First, you press STAT. The window will have three choices across the top: EDIT, CALC, and TESTS. You need to be on EDIT. You should see 5 chioces. Choose the first, Edit, by pressing either ENTER or 1.

You should see three lists with L1, L2, and L3 at the tops of them. Enter the x-values in L1 and the y-values in L2.

In step 3, you need to determine max's and min's for both x and y and lesser x and y-values. Use the lesser values in your window.

If you need more help with this, let me know and drop by my room before class tomorrow.

Homework:

Finish Lesson 1-5, Covering the Ideas and Applying.

How do I use lists on a calculator?

I actually understood #8 but the actual problem is with activity #7. Maybe it is just my calculator but it keeps saying that I have a DIM error?

Anyways see you Tomorrrow,

Hi Mrs. Burke!!!

Wow! I haven't commented in a LOOOONG time!! :)
I really like ahc! I had a test in h. geometry! but unfortunately, I didn't get the full class period to work on it because we had a fire drill!! :( And what's even worse is that this fire drill was worse than holy cross's worst record from last year! that's why they're making us do another fire drill next week!!!!
but, luckily, I was able to finish the test!
you're studying sets? i remember liking sets a lot compared to rates! ugh, how I despised those rates!!
we're learning about patterns and finding the recurcive and explicit reasoning! and construting things. i enjoy it! it's my favorite class! :)
I hope I can visit soon! :)
Love,
wiesej

Lists are kind of confusing for me...I was really lost with question 6. Could we possible go over them a little more?

After 2 hours in my brother's room going over my homework, i finally finished it all...with his help on a few. But, it was mostly on my own! I still don't get 6 though and neither did he. Lists confuse me...

Hi Mrs. Burke!
I came to visit Woods today after school, but you weren't there! :(
I'll come visit again soon, but I really wanted to see you!
I just had my first math quiz yesterday! It was really really easy. But so far everything in Algebra 1 is easy. In fact we just finished going over the distributive property, and I just want to say that when we did problems on the board, I came up with the answers the quickest! I learned a lot in your class! You eighth graders are lucky to have Mrs. Burke!
See you soon!
Love,
AMS

p.s. KES was also there today. By coincidence! :)

THANKS for these steps, I am going back and trying to make sense of all the programs on my calculator that could be helpful on the test and this post REALLY helped when it came down to scatterplots. Oh, I forgot to tell you. When I shadowed I went to the math class and I could use the calculator better than the students there!!! They all had to ask me for help with their calculators.

THANKS ALOT MRS. BURKE!!!!
