How's Your Summer?
I just arrived back from a week in Malta and a week in Berlin. Both locations were very interesting and very different from each other.
Malta was hot and dry, and the language, Malti, sounds somewhat like Arabic. Fortunately everyone speaks English. There were many students from all over summering in Malta so that they could learn English. I met two French boys who attend the Sorbonne who did not know much English. I had to help them with directions so got to practice my French. Malta has several walled cities built by the Knights of St. John (Knights of Malta) and is 98% Catholic. There are beautiful old churches and cathedrals all over the island. We took buses everywhere and that was an adventure in itself. The buses are the major source of transportation and they move at a high speed, most with the doors open for ventilation. Malta is hilly and some curves are 315 degree turns.

Hi Mrs. Burke,
Wow! It sounds like the bus rides were really scary! Were you ever in any danger?
My summer so far has been for the most part uneventful, but I'll be going to California to see my cousins soon.

I just got back from France and Greece last night! There were no 315 degree turns in Greece, but my Grandpa's driving was scary enough! :) My parents wanted me to get a Sorbonne sweatshirt in France because we walked past the university a few times, but I got a plain Paris one instead! It was really fun!
