Berlin, eine schöne Stadt

Berlin was so fascinating. I saw Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, and what is left of the Berlin Wall and I walked up to the top of the Reichstag. All of these were places that I learned about in Social Studies class when I was your age. I practiced my German and can order coffee and a pastry from any Bäckerei! I love to take buses in European cities and also rode the S-Bahn, the train. My husband and attended the ballet Giselle.

One of my favorite places was the Berlin Zoologischer Garten (Berlin Zoo). There were many new animal babies but my favorite was Knut the Eisbaer. If you go to the Young Anmals hotlink at the Zoo website, you can see the little guy. There was much controversy about him because his mother abandoned him and another cub that died shortly after birth. Knut put on quite a show rolling around in his outdoor play area the day I saw him.
