Properties of Exponents

It's time to memorize and you will have seven properties to memorize altogether. Start tonight by memorizing the first two. Rest assured that you will be using these properties over and over. They are time savers!

When you are working on question 15 in Lesson 8-4 tonight, try seeing how many times you can fold a piece of paper. Six? Eight? Twelve? Estimate before you start to fold. What happened and how close did you get to your estimate?

Comment...all of you!

For Tuesday:

1. Finish Applying in Lesson 8.4.
2. Complete Covering the Reading in Lesson 8.5.
3. Consider when you want to take a very short quiz on Lessons 8.1-8.3.

Hi Mrs. Burke,
do you want us to correct our tests and get them signed?
I think I need to review 8-4...I'm having trouble with it.
See you tomorrow!

Hi Mrs. Burke,
I just got to the paper folding problem and I predict that, theortically, I could fold the paper on and on and on forever and ever, just like the pizza pirate problem last year. However, it is really hard to fold a really small piece of paper. I predict I'll be able to fold it 15 times.
I'll comment again and say how far I got!

Hi Mrs. Burke,
I folded it 8 times. I guess I was too confident when I said 15! But atleast I got a little more than 50% of my original guess!

Hi Mrs. Burke,

I am making up for not commenting the past month, I am confused on some questions that I got wrong on the test for chapter 6. Can I run them by you in class? See you tomorrow!

Hi Mrs. Burke,
I tried posting earlier today, but it wasn't working.
I thought Thursday or Friday would be good to take the quiz.
I think that powers are (so far) more interesting than slopes! :)
See you tomorrow!

Sorry I didn't comment on Monday. In class on Tuesday I estimated I could fold the paper 7 times, but I only folded it six times. See you in class Thursday!

Hello Mrs. Burke,

I thought it would be easy to fold the paper 10 times but I only folded it 7 times. At first I was sort of uncomfortable with lesson 8-5 but now I feel a little more confident. See you tomorrow!

Dear Mrs. Burke,

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4fSwS8rFNWI

That is the url for the mythbusters segment on folding paper. You should check it out: it is pretty cool. It even mentions exponential growth! (I was mistaken earlier today; they only folded it 11 times)

Dear Mrs. Burke,
I will memorize both of the properties and I will also always do the process. I think that we should have the 8-1-8-3 quiz on friday because we have had a lot of other work for other classes this week. See you tomorrow!
